Getting There

Car
If you are driving, begin your journey by entering Patapsco Valley State Park via the main entrance located on Alberton Road, Windsor Mill, MD 21244. Once inside the park, follow the signs towards the 'Avalon Area'. After approximately 1.5 miles, you will reach a parking area near the Avalon Visitor Center. Park your vehicle here. From the parking area, take the 'Gravel Hill Trail' that heads northwest. Hike along this trail for about 0.6 miles until you reach a fork. At the fork, continue straight to stay on Gravel Hill Trail. After another 0.2 miles, you will see a sign indicating 'Alligator Rock' to your right. Follow the trail leading to the rock formation which is located near the Patapsco River.

Public Transportation + Hiking
For those using public transportation, take the Metro SubwayLink to the 'Lansdowne' station. From there, catch a local bus (Bus 37) towards 'Windsor Mill' and exit at the stop nearest to the park entrance on Alberton Road. From the bus stop, walk approximately 0.5 miles to the park entrance. Once inside the park, proceed to the Avalon Area parking lot as described above. From the parking lot, take the Gravel Hill Trail and follow the hiking instructions as mentioned in the car guidance, which involves hiking about 0.6 miles to reach Alligator Rock.
