Board the train towards 'Government Center' and transfer to the Orange Line at 'Haymarket' station. Take the Orange Line train towards 'Oak Grove' and get off at 'North Station' stop. From North Station, exit and walk to the nearby 'North Station' bus terminal. Take the 'Salem' bus (MBTA Route 450) that travels directly to Salem. After approximately 30 minutes, disembark at the 'Salem Depot.' From there, it’s a short 10-minute walk: head east on Washington St, turn right onto Derby St, and you will find the Custom House on your right.
Train
For a scenic route to the Custom House, start at 'South Station' in Boston. Purchase a ticket for the MBTA commuter rail to Salem, taking the 'Newburyport/Rockport Line.' Once on the train, relax and enjoy the ride, which will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Salem train station, exit and turn left onto Washington St. Walk straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach Derby St, then turn right. The Custom House will be located on your left at 176 Derby St.
Bus
From Boston, make your way to the 'Haymarket' Bus Terminal. Board the MBTA bus heading towards Salem (Route 450). The bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the 'Salem Depot,' exit the bus and walk east on Washington St. When you reach Derby St, turn right and continue walking until you see the Custom House on your right at 176 Derby St.
Walking from Salem
If you are already in Salem, you can easily walk to the Custom House. Start at the Salem Common park located in the center of the city. Head east on Essex St until you reach the intersection with Washington St. Turn left onto Washington St and continue straight until you reach Derby St. Turn right onto Derby St, and the Custom House will be located on your left at 176 Derby St.
