If you're starting from Downtown Crossing, take the Red Line subway. Head to the Downtown Crossing station and board the train towards Alewife. Get off at the Park Street station, which is just two stops away. Once you exit the station, walk towards Tremont Street and take a left. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with School Street. Post Office Square will be on your right, just a short walk from the intersection.
Bus
If you're near the Boston Common, you can catch the #43 or #55 bus from the Common to Post Office Square. Head to the bus stop located on Charles Street, and board the bus. Stay on the bus for about 5 minutes and get off at the Post Office Square stop. The square will be right in front of you as you disembark.

If you're at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, you can easily walk to Post Office Square. Head southwest on Congress Street towards State Street. Continue walking for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection of Congress and State Streets. Take a right onto State Street, and continue straight until you reach Post Office Square. It’s a lovely, short walk through the heart of downtown Boston.
