If you are starting from downtown Gloucester, head east on Main Street toward Washington Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Route 127. Turn right onto Route 127 and follow it until you reach the Gloucester Harbor. Once at the harbor, look for the ferry terminal and take the ferry to Salem. After arriving in Salem, exit the ferry and walk towards the intersection of Derby Street and Essex Street. Continue walking on Essex Street for about 0.5 miles until you reach the Ropes Mansion and Garden at 318 Essex St. The mansion will be on your right.

From downtown Gloucester, walk to the Gloucester MBTA bus stop located at 1 Main Street. Catch the #450 bus heading towards Salem. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes. After reaching the Salem bus terminal, exit the bus and walk towards Essex Street. Continue walking on Essex Street for about 0.3 miles, and you will find the Ropes Mansion and Garden located at 318 Essex St on your right.

Begin your journey at the Gloucester MBTA train station on Railroad Avenue. Take the commuter rail service towards North Station (Boston). After about 40 minutes, get off at the Salem train station. From the Salem train station, exit and walk towards the center of town.
