The Enchanting Mt. Holyoke Summit House: A Historical Landmark

Getting There

• Car

  To reach Mt. Holyoke Summit House by car, start by navigating to Hadley, MA. If you're coming from the center of Amherst, head west on MA-116 N for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Mountain Rd and continue until you reach the entrance to Skinner State Park. Follow the signs to the summit house. The address is 195 Skinner State Park Rd, Hadley, MA 01035. Note that there is a parking fee of $5 per vehicle to access the park.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, take the PVTA bus route 30 from Amherst or Northampton to Hadley. After arriving at the Hadley Town Hall stop, walk approximately 1.5 miles to the entrance of Skinner State Park. From the park entrance, you can either hike up the road or the more challenging Metacomet-Monadnock Trail to reach the summit house. Be prepared for a steep hike. • Biking

  For those who enjoy biking, you can ride to Mt. Holyoke Summit House. From the center of Northampton, take the bike path along the Connecticut River to Hadley. Once in Hadley, follow Mountain Rd to the entrance of Skinner State Park. The ride is approximately 5 miles and will require a moderate level of fitness. Ensure your bike is in good condition, and be mindful of traffic on the roads.

• Hiking

  If you're already in the vicinity and feel adventurous, you can hike to Mt. Holyoke Summit House directly from nearby trails. The Metacomet-Monadnock Trail offers a scenic route with breathtaking views. Ensure you have a good map or GPS, as the trails can be winding and challenging. This option is free but requires good hiking shoes and plenty of water.
