If you are in downtown Lowell, start at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center located at 246 Market Street. Head east on Market Street until you reach the intersection with Merrimack Street. Turn left onto Merrimack Street and continue walking until you reach the bus terminal at the corner of Merrimack and Central Street. From there, take the MBTA bus towards Boston (make sure to check the bus schedule for the latest times). Once you arrive in Boston, disembark at the Boston Common bus stop. From the Boston Common, you can easily walk to the Freedom Trail by heading northeast towards the Park Street Station and following the trail markers.

From any location in Lowell, make your way to the nearest Lowell Transit bus stop. Take the bus that goes to the Lowell Train Station. At the train station, purchase a ticket for the MBTA commuter rail to Boston. Once you arrive at North Station in Boston, exit the station and follow signs to the Green Line subway. Take the Green Line train towards Park Street. When you reach Park Street Station, exit and follow the signs to the Freedom Trail, which is well-marked and easy to follow.

Follow Merrimack until you reach the Southern Canal. Take the bike path along the canal, which leads towards the Tyngsboro Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue on the bike path towards the edge of the town, where you can connect to the pathway leading to Boston. Once you arrive in Boston, follow the signs directing you to the Freedom Trail.
