Bus
From downtown Lowell, walk to the Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA) bus terminal located at 100 Thorndike St. Take the LRTA bus #8 towards Billerica. Ride the bus until you reach the Alewife Station in Cambridge. From Alewife, transfer to the MBTA Red Line train towards Ashmont and get off at Park Street Station. At Park Street, transfer to the Green Line and take the train towards Government Center. Get off at Government Center and follow signs for the Government Center T stop. Take the Blue Line towards Wonderland and disembark at the Aquarium stop. From there, walk to the ferry terminal at Long Wharf, where you can catch a ferry to Georges Island.
Train
From Lowell, head to the Lowell train station located at 45 Thorndike St. Take the MBTA commuter rail train on the Lowell Line towards Boston's North Station. Once you arrive at North Station, follow the signs to the Haymarket subway station. Take the Green Line towards Government Center. At Government Center, switch to the Blue Line train towards Wonderland and get off at the Aquarium stop. Walk to the ferry terminal at Long Wharf to catch a ferry to Georges Island.
Walking and Ferry
If you're already in the vicinity of the Merrimack River, take a scenic walk towards the Lowell Memorial Auditorium and head to the Riverwalk. Continue along the Riverwalk until you reach the Boott Cotton Mills Museum. From the museum, walk towards the intersection of Dutton St and Market St. Catch the LRTA bus #8 towards Billerica and get off at Alewife Station. Transfer to the MBTA Red Line towards Ashmont, disembark at Park Street, then switch to the Green Line towards Government Center and finally the Blue Line towards Wonderland. Get off at Aquarium Station and walk to the Long Wharf ferry terminal to board the ferry to Georges Island.
