Getting There

  • Bus

    From downtown New Bedford, walk to the nearest bus stop at the intersection of Purchase Street and Elm Street. Take the #60 bus heading to 'Newport'. The bus will take you through scenic areas and drop you off at the Newport Gateway Center. From there, transfer to the #67 bus towards 'Ocean Drive'. After about 15 minutes on the #67 bus, you will arrive at the stop for Brenton Point State Park.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops in New Bedford. Start from the Downtown area and head towards the East Bay Bike Path. Follow the bike path which leads directly to Newport. Once in Newport, continue along the scenic Ocean Drive. Brenton Point State Park will be on your right side after about 2 miles.

  • Walking

    If you prefer to walk, start at the New Bedford Whaling Museum located at 18 Johnny Cake Hill. From there, head south towards the waterfront and follow the path along the harbor. Walk down to the ferry terminal and take the ferry to Newport (check the ferry schedule in advance). Once in Newport, walk along Thames Street and then follow the signs to Ocean Drive. Brenton Point State Park is approximately a 30-minute walk from the ferry terminal.
