Getting There

• Bus

  From downtown New Bedford, head to the nearest bus stop located at 15 Union Street, which is about a 5-minute walk from most central locations. Take the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) Bus Route 60 towards Providence. The bus will take approximately 30-40 minutes to reach Providence. Get off at the stop closest to Memorial Blvd, which is usually at the intersection with Francis Street. From there, it's a short walk to Waterplace Park.

• Train

  Walk to the New Bedford train station located at 20 Union Street, which is about a 10-minute walk from the city center. Board the South Coast Rail to Providence, which typically runs several times a day. The train ride will take roughly 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Providence station, exit the station and walk towards Memorial Blvd. It is about a 15-minute walk from the station to Waterplace Park.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer a more active route, rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops in downtown New Bedford. Take the scenic route along the waterfront, following the bike paths that lead into Rhode Island. The ride to Waterplace Park in Providence will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your pace. Follow the bike lanes along Route 195 East, and then merge onto Memorial Blvd in Providence, which will lead you directly to the park.

• Walking

  For the adventurous, you can walk from New Bedford to Providence. This route is approximately 20 miles and will take around 6-7 hours. Start by heading northeast on Route 18, then follow signs towards the Route 195 East bridge. Cross the bridge into Rhode Island and continue straight onto Memorial Blvd, which will lead you directly to Waterplace Park. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water!
