Once you arrive at South Station, transfer to the Red Line subway. Board an Alewife-bound train and travel for about 5 stops until you reach the Harvard Square station. Exit the station, and you'll find yourself in the heart of Harvard Square, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and historical sites.
