Gallows Hill Park: A Tranquil Escape in Historic Salem

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from downtown Salem, head east on Washington Street toward New Derby Street. Continue straight onto Bridge Street and take a left onto Lafayette Street. Follow Lafayette Street to the intersection with Mansell Parkway. Turn right onto Mansell Parkway, and Gallows Hill Park will be on your left. There is street parking available nearby but be mindful of any parking signs.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Gallows Hill Park using public transportation, catch the MBTA commuter rail at Salem Station (located at 2 Washington Square). Take the train toward Lowell and get off at the next stop, which is the Salem Depot. From there, you can walk to Gallows Hill Park, which is approximately a 25-minute walk. Simply head south on Washington Street, turn left on Bridge Street, then a quick left onto Lafayette Street, and finally a right onto Mansell Parkway. The park will be on your left.

• Walking

  If you are already nearby, Gallows Hill Park is accessible by walking. From the Salem Witch Museum (at 19 1/2 Washington Square North), walk northeast on Washington Street toward New Derby Street. Continue straight onto Bridge Street and then left onto Lafayette Street. Finally, turn right onto Mansell Parkway, and the park will be on your left. This route is approximately a 15-minute walk.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, you can bike to Gallows Hill Park from any location in Salem. Use the bike lanes available along Lafayette Street. Once you reach Mansell Parkway, there are bike racks available at the park for parking your bicycle. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local biking rules.
