Public Transportation
From Waltham, walk to the nearest bus stop serving the MBTA. Take the #70 bus toward Alewife Station. Ride for about 20 minutes until you reach Alewife Station. Transfer to the Alewife subway line (Red Line) and head toward Ashmont. After approximately 30 minutes, get off at the 'JFK/UMass' station. From JFK/UMass, take bus #9 or #10 toward South Boston. Get off at the stop for William J Day Blvd. Walk about 10 minutes south to reach Castle Island.

Start by walking to Waltham's Main Street and catch the #553 bus toward Boston. After about 30 minutes, get off at the 'South Station' stop in Boston. From South Station, transfer to the Red Line subway towards Ashmont. Ride for about 6 stops and get off at 'JFK/UMass' station. Exit the station and take bus #9 or #10 to William J Day Blvd. Walk about 10 minutes to arrive at Castle Island.
Biking
If you're adventurous, you can bike from Waltham to Castle Island. Head south on Main Street towards Boston, following the bike paths along the Charles River. Continue biking until you reach the Boston city limits. Once in Boston, navigate toward the South Boston area, following bike lanes to William J Day Blvd. The entire trip is approximately 13 miles and should take around 1 hour, depending on your speed.
