Car
If you are driving from the center of Adrar, head northwest on Avenue de la Libération towards Avenue de la République. Continue straight for about 2 km until you reach the junction at N2. Turn left onto N2 and follow the signs for Chinguetti. Keep driving for approximately 100 km along N2. As you approach Chinguetti, look for signs directing you to the Adrar Plateau. The final stretch will involve turning onto a smaller road leading into the plateau area. Make sure to have a GPS or map handy, as some areas may be less clearly marked.
Public Transportation
From the main bus station in Adrar, take a shared taxi (also known as 'taxi-brousse') heading to Chinguetti. The fare should be around 3000 MRU (Mauritanian Ouguiya). The journey will take roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. Once you arrive in Chinguetti, you will need to find a local guide or hire a 4x4 vehicle to reach the Adrar Plateau. The cost for hiring a vehicle can vary, so negotiate the price beforehand. Expect to pay around 5000 MRU for a round trip.
Guided Tours
Consider booking a guided tour from Adrar that includes transportation to the Adrar Plateau. Many local tour operators offer packages that include a 4x4 vehicle, a guide, and sometimes meals. Prices can range from 10,000 to 20,000 MRU depending on the length of the tour and included services. This option is particularly recommended for those unfamiliar with the area, as it provides both transportation and local insights.
