The drive from Playa del Carmen takes about 45 minutes, while from Cancun, it can take approximately 1.5 hours. Upon reaching Tulum, follow the signs leading to 'Zona Hotelera' or 'Tulum Ruins'. Parking is available near the entrance of the Tulum archaeological site for a fee of around 30 MXN.
Bus
For public transportation, you can take a bus from Cancun or Playa del Carmen. ADO buses operate from the main bus stations in both cities. If you're coming from Cancun, head to the ADO terminal and buy a ticket to Tulum; the journey lasts about 2 hours and costs approximately 120-150 MXN. If traveling from Playa del Carmen, the ADO bus will take about 45 minutes and cost around 70-90 MXN. The bus will drop you off at the Tulum bus station, from where you can take a taxi or a local colectivo (shared van) to reach the Tulum ruins or beach areas.

Colectivos are a budget-friendly option for getting to Tulum. These shared vans operate between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. You can find them on the main highway, just outside the ADO bus station in Playa del Carmen. The fare is usually around 50-60 MXN and the journey takes about 30-45 minutes. Once in Tulum, you can walk or take another taxi to your final destination.

If you're staying in Tulum and looking for an eco-friendly way to explore, consider renting a bicycle. Many rental shops are available in town. Biking to the Tulum ruins from the town center takes about 15-20 minutes and is a pleasant ride. There is a bike rack near the entrance of the ruins. Rental prices typically range from 150-300 MXN per day.
