Jose is professional, courteous and very accommodating. He does not pressure you in any way to move at any pace. He has vast knowledge of the Zapotec, Mixtec culture and was raised in this village and is related to everyone. He also majored in Forestry and can explain the agriculture and plants of the area. He answered all of our questions and his English was spectacular. Out taxi driver had to cancel, and Jose was quick to get one of his friends to help us down to the center of Oaxaca city where we were staying! Please book this tour. It is a one in a lifetime education in ancient culture.

Excellent tour

This was one of the best tours ever. Our Guide was very informative and took us first through the small museum in the town. He answered all our questions and was just a genuinely nice person. We went to the local studio of Pantaleon Ruiz where he explained the entire process of weaving from cleaning and spinning the wool to designing the really beautiful rugs. The art and textiles displayed were some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. We visited the cultural exhibits which mostly centered on the marriage traditions and then visited a family where they make the extraordinary candles that are part of the tradition. It was a delightful day. The only issue was that we had to find our own transportation from Oaxaca and it took some time to find a taxi who would do it.
