Getting There

• Car

  From any major city in Southeastern Mexico, such as Mérida or Cancún, you will need to drive to the nearest major highway heading north. The most common route is to take Highway 180 to Highway 57, then continue north towards the U.S. border. Once you reach the vicinity of Utah, navigate to Highway 89 North. Follow Highway 89 until you reach the junction for Highway 98. From Highway 98, follow the signs to Page, Arizona. After reaching Page, Arizona, follow local directions to Forbidding Canyon Lake, where the Rainbow Bridge National Monument is located. Please note that this journey can take approximately 20-24 hours, so plan for rest stops and overnight accommodations along the way.

• Public Transportation

  Using public transportation, your best option is to take a bus from major cities in Southeastern Mexico to a larger city with bus services to the U.S. border, such as San Antonio, Texas. From San Antonio, take a Greyhound bus to Page, Arizona. Once you arrive in Page, you will need to arrange a taxi or local shuttle service to reach Forbidding Canyon Lake, as public transportation options are limited in that area. It’s important to check bus schedules in advance and book your tickets early, as routes may vary. Be prepared for additional costs for the taxi or shuttle service from Page to the monument.

• Boat

  After reaching Forbidding Canyon Lake, the only way to access Rainbow Bridge National Monument is by boat. There are several boat tours available that depart from the lake. Ensure you check the availability and book your spot in advance, as the tours can fill up quickly. The boats usually charge a fee, which can vary depending on the tour provider, and it is advisable to bring your own snacks and water for the trip. Remember that this is a national monument located on indigenous land, and there might be additional costs or permits required for access.
