Getting there

Car

If you are driving from central Tierra Caliente, head towards the main road that connects to the Mexico - Pachuca highway (Carretera Federal 85). Follow the signs for Pachuca. Once you reach the junction to the city of Pachuca, look for the signs pointing to the highway towards Cardonal (Pachuca - Cardonal - Tolantongo). Continue for approximately 2 hours until you reach the Ejido San Cristóbal area. The entrance to Grutas Tolantongo will be on your right, look for the large signs indicating the hot springs. There is a parking fee that ranges from 50 to 100 MXN depending on the season.

Bus

For public transportation, take a bus from Tierra Caliente to Pachuca. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey typically takes about 3 hours. Once in Pachuca, transfer to a bus heading to Cardonal. Make sure to ask the driver or staff for the bus that goes directly to Grutas Tolantongo, as some buses may not go directly to the entrance. The bus fare from Pachuca to Cardonal is approximately 50 to 100 MXN. From Cardonal, you may need to take a local taxi or a shared van to reach the entrance of Grutas Tolantongo, which should cost around 30 to 50 MXN.

Taxi or Rideshare

If you prefer a more direct option, you can use a taxi or rideshare app from Tierra Caliente. The costs can vary, but expect to pay around 500 to 800 MXN for the ride, depending on your exact starting point. This option is ideal for groups, as the cost can be shared among passengers. Ensure to confirm the estimated fare with the driver before starting your journey.
