Getting There

  • Collectivo

    From anywhere in Tulum, head to the main road (Carretera Tulum-Cancún). Look for a collectivo (shared van) stop, which is usually located close to the bus station or along the main road near popular areas. The fare to Akumal is generally around 40-50 pesos. Board the collectivo heading towards Akumal, and inform the driver you want to get off at Aktun Chen. The journey takes about 20-30 minutes.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Tulum. Start by heading north on Avenida Tulum until you reach the main road (Carretera Tulum-Cancún). Turn left onto the main road and cycle for about 10 kilometers. Look for signs for Aktun Chen, which is located on the right-hand side of the highway at Km 107. The ride should take approximately 40-60 minutes, depending on your pace.

  • Walking

    Walking to Aktun Chen from Tulum is not recommended due to the distance (about 10 kilometers) and the busy main road. However, if you choose to walk, start by heading north on Avenida Tulum to reach the main road (Carretera Tulum-Cancún). Once on the main road, walk north until you see the entrance for Aktun Chen on your right at Km 107. This walk could take around 2-3 hours, so be prepared with water and sun protection.
