Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from a major city in Western Mexico, such as Guadalajara or León, take Highway 45D towards Irapuato. From Irapuato, follow signs to Highway 57D and then take the exit toward Highway 85D. Continue on Highway 85D until you reach the town of Cardonal. From Cardonal, follow local signs to San Cristóbal, where Grutas Tolantongo is located. The coordinates are approximately 20.6423204 latitude and -98.9918087 longitude. Be prepared for a scenic drive, but also for some winding mountain roads. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition for these routes. Parking fees may apply at the entrance of Grutas Tolantongo.

• Bus

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from major cities like Pachuca or Mexico City. From Pachuca, head to the Terminal de Autobuses, and take a bus to Cardonal. The journey takes about 2 hours and costs around 100-150 MXN. Once you arrive in Cardonal, take a local taxi or colectivo (shared van) to San Cristóbal, which is a short drive. Confirm the fare with the driver before departing, as local prices can vary.

• Taxi/Colectivo from Cardonal

  After reaching Cardonal by bus, you can catch a taxi or colectivo to Grutas Tolantongo. Taxis are available at the bus terminal, and the ride will take about 30 minutes. The fare should be around 200-300 MXN. Colectivos are usually cheaper, costing around 50-70 MXN, but may take longer as they pick up other passengers along the way. Ensure you agree on the fare before getting in and confirm that the driver knows the destination.
