If you are traveling by car, the most direct route to Tulum is via Highway 307. Starting from Cancún, drive south on Highway 307 for approximately 130 kilometers (about 1.5 to 2 hours). You will pass through Playa del Carmen and Akumal. Look for the signs that indicate Tulum; you will need to exit onto Avenida Tulum, which leads directly into the town. Once you reach Tulum, continue on Avenida Tulum until you reach the Zona Hotelera, which is where the famous archaeological site is located. Be aware that parking fees may apply near the site, typically around 30-50 pesos.

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from various locations like Cancún or Playa del Carmen. From Cancún, head to the ADO bus terminal and purchase a ticket to Tulum, which costs around 200-300 pesos. The buses are comfortable and have air conditioning. The journey takes about 2 hours. Upon arrival at the Tulum bus station, you can take a taxi or a colectivo (shared taxi) to the Zona Hotelera, which is approximately 4 kilometers away. The taxi fare will be around 50-100 pesos, while a colectivo costs about 30 pesos per person.

Another option for public transport is the colectivo service. Colectivos are shared vans that run frequently along Highway 307. From Playa del Carmen, you can catch a colectivo heading to Tulum for about 40 pesos. The colectivo will drop you off in the town center, and from there, you can either walk to the archaeological site (approximately 3 kilometers) or take a taxi to the entrance for about 50 pesos.
