Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, head to the center of Charlevoix and locate US-31. From there, head north on US-31 for about 1.5 miles until you see signs for Maple Grove Rd. Turn left onto Maple Grove Rd. Continue on Maple Grove Rd for about 1.2 miles. The entrance to Charles A. Ransom Nature Preserve will be on your right, marked by a small sign. There is no parking fee, but ensure you park in designated areas to avoid any fines.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take the Charlevoix County Transit bus service. Look for the bus route that services Charlevoix. Ask the driver for the closest stop to Maple Grove Rd. Once you disembark, you may need to walk about 0.5 miles down Maple Grove Rd to reach the preserve. Be sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time for departure times and potential fares.

• Bicycle

  If you're cycling, start in the center of Charlevoix and follow the same route as drivers. US-31 has a bike lane, but it’s advisable to ride on Maple Grove Rd for a quieter experience. Ensure you wear a helmet and observe traffic laws. The ride is approximately 3 miles and should take about 15-20 minutes.

• Walking

  If you are in the downtown area and prefer to walk, it’s about a 1.5-mile walk to the preserve. Head north on US-31 from downtown Charlevoix, then take a left onto Maple Grove Rd. Continue until you reach the entrance. The walk will take roughly 30 minutes, so wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.
