Car
If you're driving, start on US-23 North. From there, take M-72 West towards Oscoda. Continue straight on M-72 until you reach the intersection with M-65. Turn left onto M-65 South. Follow M-65 until you reach the Tawas City area. Here, you will turn onto M-55 West, which will take you toward the Huron National Forest. After approximately 25 miles, you will turn right onto Au Sable Road. Drive down Au Sable Road until you reach the parking area for the Au Sable Light Station. Note that there is a parking fee of $10 for a day pass.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited, so it is recommended to use a taxi service or rideshare app from the nearest city. If you are in Oscoda, you can take a taxi to the Au Sable Light Station. It is recommended to check local taxi services ahead of time as they may require advance booking. Once you arrive at the parking area, the light station is accessible by a short hiking trail. The hike is about 1.5 miles one way, and it's a beautiful path through the woods leading directly to the lighthouse.
Hiking
If you are already at the parking area near Au Sable Road, you will need to hike approximately 1.5 miles to reach the Au Sable Light Station. The trail is well-marked and takes you through beautiful forested areas. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as the hike can take around 30-40 minutes depending on your pace. There are signs along the way that provide information about the local flora and fauna.
