Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the downtown area of St. Joseph, head towards the St. Joseph River. Walk north on Main Street until you reach the riverfront park, which is a lovely area for a stroll. Continue along the riverwalk, enjoying the views of the water and the surrounding park. Follow the riverwalk path as it leads east towards Lake Michigan. You will eventually reach the end of the riverwalk where it meets the beach area. From there, walk north along the shoreline until you see the St. Joseph North Pierhead Outer Lighthouse. The lighthouse is located at the end of the pier, and you will need to walk along the pier to get a closer view. Be cautious as the pier can be windy and may have uneven surfaces.

• Biking

  From downtown St. Joseph, rent a bike from one of the local bike rental shops. Start your journey by biking north on Main Street towards the riverfront. Once you reach the riverfront park, switch to the bike path along the riverwalk. Follow the bike path as it curves eastward towards Lake Michigan. As you approach the beach area, continue biking along the shoreline path, which runs parallel to the beach. You will arrive at the entrance of the pier leading to the St. Joseph North Pierhead Outer Lighthouse. Park your bike at the designated bike rack before walking out onto the pier for a great view of the lighthouse.

• Public Transport

  While St. Joseph does not have a comprehensive public transportation system, you can use the local transit options. Check with the local transit authority for any available bus routes that may lead to the beach area. Once you arrive at the nearest stop, walk towards the shoreline. From there, follow the beach path that leads north to the pier. The lighthouse is located at the end of the pier, and you can walk out to enjoy the view. Make sure to confirm the bus schedule ahead of time, as services may be limited.
