Car
If you are traveling by car, start from any point in The Thumb. For example, if you are in Port Huron, take I-94 W for about 20 miles. Then, take exit 264 for M-25 N toward Lexington. Continue on M-25 N for approximately 15 miles. Once you reach Lakeport, turn right onto Lakeshore Rd. Lakeport State Park will be located on your right at 7605 Lakeshore Rd, Lakeport, MI 48059. Parking is available at the park, and there may be a small entrance fee, usually around $11 for a daily vehicle pass.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, the options may be limited in rural areas like The Thumb. You can take a Greyhound bus to Port Huron. From there, you will need to arrange for a local taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to take you the remaining distance to Lakeport State Park, which is about a 20-minute drive. Be sure to check in advance for availability and costs, as a taxi fare could range from $30 to $50 depending on the time of day.
Biking
For those who are adventurous and wish to bike to Lakeport State Park, you can take the scenic route along M-25 N from Lexington or Port Huron. Make sure to wear appropriate safety gear, and plan for a ride that could take a few hours depending on your starting point. There are bike lanes in some sections, but be cautious of traffic. Bring water and snacks, as amenities may be sparse along the way.
