Car
If you're traveling by car from anywhere in Big Woods, take MN-6 N towards Cass Lake. Continue on MN-6 N for approximately 30 miles until you reach the junction with US-2. Take a left onto US-2 W and drive for about 5 miles. You will see signs for Chippewa National Forest. The main visitor center is located at 200 Ash Ave NW, Cass Lake, MN 56633. Parking is available on-site.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, you can take a Greyhound bus from Big Woods to Cass Lake. The trip will take approximately 2-3 hours. Once you arrive at the Cass Lake bus station, you may need to call a local taxi service to get to Chippewa National Forest (200 Ash Ave NW, Cass Lake, MN 56633). Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance to plan your trip accordingly. The taxi fare may vary, typically ranging from $10 to $20.
Biking or Walking
For the adventurous, biking or walking from Big Woods can also be an option. Follow the same route as the car guidance, taking MN-6 N and US-2 W. It will be a scenic journey, but be prepared for a long distance (approximately 35 miles). Make sure to wear appropriate gear and bring plenty of water and snacks.
