Experience Pincushion Mountain Trail System

Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the center of Grand Marais, near the iconic Gunflint Tavern and the harbor area. Head east on Highway 61 for about 0.3 miles, enjoying the scenic views of Lake Superior. Look for the sign for 'Pincushion Mountain' on the right side of the highway. Follow the paved path that branches off from the highway; this path will lead you directly toward Pincushion Mountain. Continue following the path for about 0.5 miles until you reach Pincushion Drive. Turn left onto Pincushion Drive and walk for another 0.2 miles. The entrance to the Pincushion Mountain Trail System will be on your left.

  • Biking

    If you have a bicycle, start from the Grand Marais Harbor area and head southeast on Highway 61. Ride for approximately 0.5 miles until you see the 'Pincushion Mountain' sign. There will be a bike-friendly path leading off the highway. Take this path which will lead you toward Pincushion Drive. Once you reach Pincushion Drive, turn left and bike for about 0.2 miles to find the entrance to the Pincushion Mountain Trail System.

  • Hiking

    From anywhere in Grand Marais, navigate toward the shoreline of Lake Superior. Make your way to Highway 61 and head toward the east side of town. Walk along the lakefront, enjoying the views, and continue east until you reach the junction with Pincushion Drive. Turn left at Pincushion Drive and follow it for about 0.2 miles to reach the entrance of the Pincushion Mountain Trail System.
