Discover more about Jones Park

Jones Park, a signature facility for the City of Gulfport, stands as a testament to community spirit and coastal beauty. This 60-acre park and harbor, often called the "Front Yard of Mississippi," offers a diverse range of amenities and attractions for visitors of all ages. Named after Joseph T. Jones, an American entrepreneur who played a vital role in developing Gulfport and its seaport, the park has a rich history. Jones funded the construction of the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad, co-founded the City of Gulfport, and developed its seaport. The park was established in the 1920s and was bequeathed to the city in 1935 by Jones' heir, Grace Jones Stewart. Following a complete rebuild after Hurricane Katrina, which submerged the park under 25 feet of water, Jones Park reopened in May 2012. Today, it boasts a 319-slip marina, a promenade walk, a marina services building, and the Barksdale Pavilion, a 23,000 square foot event space. The Leo Seal Educational Plaza offers an engaging space for learning, while the splash pad and playground provide fun for children. A replica lighthouse adds to the park's nautical charm. Jones Park hosts various events throughout the year, including the Gulfport Harbor Lights Festival during the Christmas season. The park also features an amphitheater stage area, a walking track, and a fuel dock and bait shop for boating enthusiasts. A 40,000-pound ship anchor, donated by the Seabees, is located near the Barksdale Pavilion.
