Discover more about TRAIN DEPOT

The Hattiesburg Train Depot, located at 308 Newman Street, stands as a testament to the city's rich history and revitalization efforts. Built in 1910 in the Italian Renaissance style, the depot was the largest and most architecturally significant of the city's three passenger depots. Its location at the crossroads of rail lines earned Hattiesburg the nickname "Hub City," as it became a center for the booming lumber industry. The 14,000-square-foot brick building boasts a 4,000-square-foot Grand Hall and a 924-foot canopy that once covered the loading platform. After falling into disrepair, the city purchased the depot in 2000 and began a seven-year, $10 million restoration project. The restored depot was rededicated in 2007 as an intermodal transportation center for rail, bus, and taxi services. Today, the Hattiesburg Train Depot is more than just a transportation hub. The Grand Hall is used for art exhibits, social functions, and private events. The depot also houses the city's Geographic Information Systems office and a community room. The depot is a Mississippi Landmark and a contributing resource within the Hub City Historic District.
