Discover more about The Little Dooey

The Little Dooey is more than just a restaurant; it's a Starkville tradition. Founded in 1985 by Berry and Margaret Ann Wood, what began as a weekend barbecue hobby quickly blossomed into a local favorite. The Woods started by serving their homemade barbecue and sauces at a local service station, and the overwhelming response led them to open their first restaurant. The name “Little Dooey” comes from a Wood family tradition, meaning a fun gathering of friends and family. Located in a charming, old red house at 100 Fellowship St, The Little Dooey has expanded over the years to accommodate its growing popularity. The menu features time-honored recipes and sauces, with a focus on handcrafted items. From pulled pork and chicken to brisket and ribs, the smoked meats are the star of the show. Complementing the meats are classic Southern sides like baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, and turnip greens. Seafood lovers can also enjoy catfish, shrimp, and other Gulf Coast favorites. The Little Dooey has become a regional destination, attracting regular diners and guests from all over the country. It's a popular spot for locals, students, and SEC sports fans. Over the years, the restaurant has also welcomed its fair share of celebrity visitors. With its family-friendly atmosphere and commitment to quality, The Little Dooey continues to be a beloved part of the Starkville community.
