Discover more about Vicksburg Riverfront Murals

The Vicksburg Riverfront Murals project is a series of 32 life-like pictorial murals painted on the Mississippi River flood walls in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Located on Levee Street, the murals depict periods of history in Vicksburg. The panels of the Vicksburg floodwall capture the City of Vicksburg's crucial past, present and future roles in American history, commerce, culture, religion, and technology. Artist Robert Dafford was commissioned to complete the first series of panels along the flood wall facing Levee Street. The first mural in the series was unveiled in 2002. In 2012, a 55 ft. mural was commissioned to be painted on the Grove Street flood wall, across the street from the Levee Street murals. The mural is designed to be triangular in shape due to Grove Street's incline. Visitors can stroll along the riverfront, enjoying the art while learning about the events and people that shaped the city. The murals not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the waterfront but also foster a sense of community and pride among locals.
