The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Annunciation, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral, is a prominent Catholic cathedral in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Serving as a co-cathedral alongside St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield, it holds a significant place in the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. Plans for the church began as early as 1858 to serve Cape Girardeau's German population, but the Civil War delayed construction. Property was acquired at the corner of Sprigg and William Streets, and ground was broken on March 25, 1868, the Feast of the Annunciation. The cornerstone was laid on August 2, and the first Mass was celebrated on February 2, 1869. The rectory was built in 1885, and in 1891, the church was redecorated and bells were added to the tower. The cathedral's architecture is Romanesque Revival. The steeple was restored, and a new organ was installed between 1990 and 1991. The parish office building was completed in January 2000. The church is located at 615 William St. St. Mary's offers multiple masses throughout the week.
