    Runge Nature Center is located at 330 Commerce Drive in Jefferson City. From Highway 50, take Highway 179 north for 0.25 miles to the entrance. Parking is available in the center's lot. Parking is free.

    Jefferson City Transit (JEFFTRAN) provides bus service within the city. Check the JEFFTRAN website or app for the most up-to-date route information and schedules. A regular fare is $1.50 per ride, with a reduced fare of $0.75 for those who qualify. Exact change is required.

    If you are in the vicinity of downtown Jefferson City, you can walk to Runge Nature Center. The center is located approximately 2 miles north of the Missouri State Capitol. From the Capitol, head north on Jefferson Street, then turn right onto McCarty Street. Continue onto Highway 179 North/North Ten Mile Drive, and the entrance to the Nature Center will be on your left. Note that there are no sidewalks along Highway 179, so use caution.

Nestled in Jefferson City, the Runge Nature Center is a gateway to exploring Missouri's diverse ecosystems. This 112-acre conservation area, maintained by the Missouri Department of Conservation, provides visitors with educational and interpretive opportunities to appreciate the state's natural habitats. The center features over two miles of hiking trails that wind through woodlands, prairies, glades, and alongside ponds. These trails offer an immersive experience in nature, allowing visitors to observe a variety of plant and animal life. The Naturescape Trail is wheelchair accessible, ensuring everyone can enjoy the outdoors. For a panoramic view of Jefferson City and the surrounding landscape, visitors can climb the 60-foot fire tower. The 3,000-square-foot visitor center houses exhibits that showcase Missouri's natural habitats, including a 3,580-gallon fish aquarium, live amphibians and reptiles, and hands-on activities for children. The center also features an indoor wildlife viewing area, a nature library, and a gift shop. Runge Nature Center was completed in 1993, with land acquired in 1977 and 1978. The first trail was built around 1983, and the area has been meticulously maintained since. The center hosts a variety of events and programs throughout the year, including nature walks, educational workshops, and art exhibits.
