The Adair County Veterans Memorial Plaza, located in Kirksville, Missouri, stands as a testament to the dedication and sacrifice of the region's veterans. The plaza features a large memorial wall and a stone obelisk. The memorial was originally erected in 1932, with names of those who served added in 1959 and 1976. The memorial wall lists the names of veterans who served overseas, while the obelisk lists those who died during their service. The site also features a well-preserved German Howitzer, captured during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of 1918, one of the bloodiest battles in United States history. The City of Kirksville donated a portion of Rotary Park for the construction of the memorial. Any honorably discharged or active duty member of the United States Armed Forces who is, or has been, a resident of Adair County or one of its adjacent counties in Missouri, is eligible for inclusion on the “Veterans Memorial Wall”. Donations are welcome from non-veterans and businesses who wish to honor veterans and support the Veterans Memorial Plaza.
