Driving

From Carthage, head east on MO-96 for about one mile. Turn north onto Road 130 and continue for approximately two miles. Turn right onto Kafir Road; Red Oak II will be about 3/4 of a mile down the road on the south side. There is no admission fee, but donations are appreciated.

Created by artist Lowell Davis, the town is a re-imagining of his childhood home of Red Oak, Missouri, which faded away after World War II. Davis returned to find his hometown nearly deserted and decided to bring its memory back to life.In 1987, Davis began moving buildings from the original Red Oak and other rural ghost towns to his farm near Carthage. He restored them and filled them with his artwork and antiques, creating a living museum. Today, Red Oak II includes a general store, a Phillips 66 station, a schoolhouse, a church, a blacksmith shop, and several homes. Some buildings are privately owned and inhabited, adding to the town's unique charm.A visit to Red Oak II is a step back in time, offering a glimpse into the simpler life of rural America in the early 20th century.
