Discover more about Eternity Memorial Complex

The Eternity Memorial Complex, located in Chișinău, Moldova, is a significant monument dedicated to the soldiers who died in the Second Jassy–Kishinev Offensive and other wars. Inaugurated on May 9, 1975, it was initially known as the Victory Memorial during the Soviet era. The complex stands on the site of three former cemeteries: Lutheran, Orthodox, and Lipovan. The centerpiece of the memorial is a 25-meter high pyramid composed of five bayonets, symbolizing the five years of World War II. These stylized rifles are crafted from black and red granite, with the years 1941-1945 engraved on each. An eternal flame burns at the center of the monument. The complex also features a commemorative stone, representing a stone flower and the star of soldiers originating from Moldova, with the names of Moldovan soldiers who died during World War II engraved on it. Visitors can also see the Heroes Cemetery, where soldiers who fell during the Iași-Chișinău military operation in August 1944 are buried. A symbolic belfry evokes the horrors of war, and a bronze crown bears the inscription, "We didn't forget you". Additionally, a black cross stands on the site of graves of fallen German soldiers. The monument "Grieving Mother," dedicated to the War of Independence of Moldova from 1991-1992, is also located within the complex. The changing of the guard ceremony is a notable event, especially moving during national holidays. The complex provides a tranquil escape with manicured gardens and peaceful pathways.
