The Triumphal Arch, also known as the Holy Gate, is a significant landmark in Chișinău, serving as a gateway to the city's historical center. Designed by architect Luka Zaușchevici and completed in 1841, the arch commemorates the Russian Empire's victory over the Ottoman Empire in the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-29. The monument's design was inspired by similar structures in Rome and is constructed from polished white stone with four openings.The arch stands 13 meters tall and features Corinthian-style capitals and ceramic ornaments. Originally, the arch also functioned as a bell tower, housing a 6.4-ton bell cast from captured Turkish cannons. However, the bell was too large for the arch, and a separate belfry was constructed nearby. Over the years, the arch has undergone several restorations, including the removal of Soviet-era plaques.
