Originally known as the Victory Memorial during the Soviet era, it was inaugurated on May 9, 1975, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II. The complex was built on the site of three old cemeteries: Lutheran, Orthodox, and Lipovan.The most prominent feature is a 25-meter high pyramid consisting of five bayonets, symbolizing the five years of the war. These stylized rifles, made of black and red granite, are engraved with the years 1941-1945 and surround the eternal flame of memory. The complex also includes a monument to the Grieving Mother, dedicated to those who died in Moldova's War of Independence from 1991-1992.Visitors can explore the complex's gardens, memorials, and sculptural works, each narrating stories of bravery and hope. The changing of the guard ceremony, performed by the Moldovan Army, is a moving spectacle, especially on national holidays.
