Soroca Fortress, located in the city of Soroca on the banks of the Dniester River, is a remarkable monument of medieval Moldovan defensive architecture. Initially constructed as a wooden fort in 1499 by Prince Stephen the Great, it was rebuilt in stone between 1543 and 1546 during the reign of Petru Rareș. This reconstruction transformed it into the impressive circular fortress that stands today.The fortress was strategically important in defending Moldova from foreign invasions, particularly from the Tatar hordes and later the Ottoman Empire. Its location on the Dniester River made it a key point in a chain of fortifications. The fortress has a circular design with a diameter of 37.5 meters and five equally spaced bastions.
