La Castel Landscape Reserve, situated near Gordinești village along the Racovăț River, is a unique natural and historical site. This protected area stretches for 5 km, showcasing limestone reef formations shaped over millions of years. These formations are divided by karst relief, creating crater-like caves due to weathering and erosion.Local legends tell of a castle that once stood here, where a beautiful maiden was hidden away. The story goes that the castle vanished underground during a celebration, leaving behind only the towering cliffs and the flowing Racovăț River. Today, visitors can explore the diverse ecosystems, including oak groves, wild cherry, and pear trees. The area is home to various plant and animal species, offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching, hiking, and photography. Many springs with crystal-clear water flow from the rocks, adding to the preserve's serene beauty.
