    Public Transport

    To reach Tipova Monastery via public transport, begin at Chișinău's central bus station. Take a marshrutka (minibus) to Rezina, a journey of approximately 1.5 hours, costing around 30-50 MDL. From Rezina, transfer to another marshrutka or taxi to Țipova village, roughly 10 km away. Inform the driver of your destination. The taxi from Rezina will cost approximately 150-200 MDL.

    If driving from Chișinău, head north on the E581 highway. After about 60 km (1 hour), exit towards Țipova. Follow the signs to Țipova village and then to Tipova Monastery. A parking area is available near the monastery. Be prepared for a walk to the monastery entrance, as it's situated on a cliffside. Parking may have a small fee of around 10 MDL.

    Tipova Monastery, located about 100 km north of Chisinau, is a captivating destination that merges spirituality with stunning natural beauty. Perched on cliffs towering 200m above the Dniester River, this is one of the largest cave monasteries in Moldova and Eastern Europe.The monastery's history dates back to the 6th century BC, though some believe it was established later. Monks initially carved cells into the steep cliffs as a safeguard against invasions. The oldest chamber, the Elevation of the Holy Cross cave church, is thought to date from the 11th century. In 1776, the monastery expanded with massive columns dividing large sections. During the Soviet period, the monastery was closed and partially destroyed but was revived in 1994.The complex consists of three religious chambers and monastic cells linked by precarious steps built into the rock face. The main church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, features intricate frescoes and a unique rock-hewn design. Visitors can explore the caves, chapels, and monastic cells, all imbued with a deep sense of history and spirituality.Legends surround Tipova Monastery. It is said that Stefan cel Mare, a great Moldovan ruler, married his wife Maria Voichita here. Another legend claims that the mythological poet Orpheus spent his last years in the area and is buried near a waterfall.Today, Tipova Monastery is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors with its historical significance and stunning location.
