Traditional Moldovan items such as handmade sheepskin hats and woven baskets are also readily available. In 1941, during World War II, the market was destroyed by retreating Soviet troops to prevent its resources from falling into enemy hands. It was subsequently rebuilt and renamed the Central Market. Today, it stands as a testament to the city's resilience and a vibrant center of Moldovan culture.
