The Suvorov Monument is a Tiraspol landmark located on Suvorov Square, the city's main square. The monument commemorates Alexander Suvorov, a Russian generalissimo considered the founder of Tiraspol. In 1792, Suvorov ordered the establishment of the Tiraspol fortress on the Dniester River's left bank. The monument, erected in 1979, was created by sculptors Vladimir and Valentin Artamonov, with architects Y. Druzhinin and Y. Chistyakov. The monument won the Yevgeny Vuchetich Gold Medal. Alla Melnichuk, director of the Tiraspol United Museum, considers it one of the best artistic monuments to Suvorov in the former USSR. The monument is featured on Transnistrian banknotes and postage stamps, solidifying its status as a city symbol. Suvorov Square also features the Memorial of Glory, the Supreme Council Building, and Catherine the Great Park.
