Discover more about Eternity Memorial Complex

The Eternity Memorial Complex, located on Strada Pantelimon Halippa in Chișinău, Moldova, is a poignant memorial dedicated to the Soviet soldiers who died during the Second Jassy–Kishinev Offensive. Inaugurated on May 9, 1975, the complex, formerly known as the Victory Memorial, commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II. The most prominent feature is the 25-meter high pyramid, comprised of five bayonets symbolizing the five years of the war. These stylized rifles, made of black and red granite, are engraved with the years 1941-1945 and surround the eternal flame. The complex also includes a symbolic belfry evoking the war's horrors and a bronze crown inscribed with "We didn't forget you". A black cross marks the graves of fallen German soldiers, while the "Grieving Mother" monument is dedicated to the War of Independence of Moldova from 1991-1992. Designed by architect A. Minaev and sculptors A. Maiko and I. Poniatowski, the memorial incorporates granite from Karelia and a commemorative stone engraved with the names of Moldovan soldiers who died in World War II. The Heroes Cemetery, where soldiers who fell during the Iași-Chișinău military operation in August 1944 are buried, lies in the background. Visitors can witness the changing of the guard ceremony, especially moving on national holidays. The complex provides a peaceful atmosphere with green spaces, making it a place for both remembrance and quiet reflection.
