Discover more about Palace of Justice

Located in Monaco-Ville, the Palace of Justice (Palais de Justice) serves as the headquarters of Monaco's judicial system. Commissioned by Prince Louis II, the palace was designed by Monégasque architect Fulbert Auréglia and inaugurated in 1930. The building's neo-Florentine style incorporates grey sea tuff stone, a porous material containing pebbles and shells, which was also used for the city's ramparts. This was done to ensure the structure stood in contrast with the white stone of the nearby Monaco Cathedral. As a working judicial building, the Palace of Justice is not generally open to the public. However, its exterior provides ample opportunity for viewing and photography. A bust of Prince Honoré II, the first ruler to be styled Prince of Monaco in 1633, is worked into the frontage. The Palace of Justice is near other attractions such as the Prince's Palace, Monaco Cathedral, and the Oceanographic Museum.
