Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Khentii, which is the nearest significant settlement. From Khentii, take the road heading northeast towards the Khentii Mountains. After approximately 30 kilometers, look for a turnoff towards Burkhan Khaldun marked by local signposts. The drive will take about 45 minutes, depending on the road conditions. Make sure to have a reliable map or GPS device, as the roads can be rugged. Parking is available near the trailhead leading to Burkhan Khaldun.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Ulaanbaatar to Khentii. Buses leave regularly from the central bus station and the journey takes around 6-7 hours. Once you arrive in Khentii, you will need to hire a local taxi or join a tour group that can take you to Burkhan Khaldun. It is advisable to negotiate the fare beforehand, which typically ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 MNT depending on the number of passengers and the vehicle.

• Hiking

  If you prefer an adventure, you can hike to Burkhan Khaldun from the nearest parking area. The hike begins from the designated trailhead, which is a short distance from where you can park your car or be dropped off by a taxi. The trail is about 5 kilometers long and will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and carry plenty of water, as the terrain can be steep and rocky.
