Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major town in the Selenge River Basin, such as Sukhbaatar or Erdenet. Head north on the A-5 highway. Follow the signs for Khovsgol Lake. After approximately 200 km, you will reach the turnoff for Sangiin Dalai Lake. The lake is located about 10 km east of the main road. Use a GPS or map app to navigate the final stretch as it may not be well marked. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for unpaved roads as the terrain can be rough.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, take a bus from Sukhbaatar or Erdenet to the nearest town to Sangiin Dalai Lake. Buses run regularly and the ticket price is approximately 10,000 to 15,000 MNT (Mongolian Tugrik). Once you arrive at the town, you can hire a local taxi or arrange for a minivan to take you directly to Sangiin Dalai Lake. The cost for a taxi may range from 20,000 to 30,000 MNT depending on bargaining skills and the distance. Make sure to confirm the return trip if necessary.
