Car
If you are driving to Turtle Rock from the main entrance of Terelj National Park, begin by heading south on the main road (Route 1) that runs through the park. Continue straight for about 5 kilometers until you reach a fork. Take the right fork towards Genghis Khan Statue Complex. After approximately 2 kilometers, you will see a sign for Turtle Rock. Follow the signs and park in the designated parking area nearby. The rock is only a short 10-minute walk from the parking area.
Public Transportation
To reach Turtle Rock using public transportation, start by taking a bus or minibus from Ulaanbaatar to Terelj National Park. Buses leave from the Dragon Bus Station in Ulaanbaatar and the fare is about 2,500 MNT (approximately $1 USD). Once you arrive at the park entrance, you can hire a local taxi or find a shared minivan that can take you to Turtle Rock. The fare for the taxi should be negotiated, typically around 10,000 MNT (about $3.50 USD) for a round trip. The driver will drop you off near the rock, from where it is a short walk to the site.
Hiking
If you prefer hiking, you can start from the Terelj National Park visitor center. From there, head northeast towards the hills for about 3 kilometers until you reach Turtle Rock. The trail is well-marked but can be steep and rocky in parts, so wear sturdy footwear. This hike will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your fitness level.
