Car
If you are traveling by car within Uvs Lake Basin, start your journey from Ulaangom, the capital of Uvs Province. Head east on the A-564 road towards the town of Khankh. After approximately 60 km, you will reach a junction. Turn left onto the A-564 road towards Buir Lake. Continue for about 45 km until you see signs for Buir Lake. The road may be unpaved in sections, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain. Upon arrival at Buir Lake, there are no formal parking areas, but you can park alongside the road near the lake.
Public Transportation
From Ulaangom, you can take a shared minivan (known locally as a 'furgon') to Khankh, which departs regularly from the central bus station. The fare is approximately 5,000 MNT. After reaching Khankh, you will need to hire a taxi or arrange for a local driver to take you the remaining 45 km to Buir Lake. Taxi fares may vary, but expect to pay around 30,000-40,000 MNT for the trip. It's advisable to negotiate the fare before starting the journey.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous and wish to cycle to Buir Lake, you can rent a bicycle in Ulaangom. Follow the same route as by car, taking the A-564 road towards Khankh. Prepare for a journey of about 105 km, which may take a full day. Make sure to carry enough water, snacks, and a repair kit for your bicycle, as services may be limited along the way. The terrain can be challenging, so be prepared for some off-road cycling.
