Getting There

  • Car

    If you're already in Bitterroot National Forest, you can reach Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness by first finding your way to Montana Highway 93 (US-93). From the main visitor areas in the Bitterroot National Forest, head north on your choice of forest service roads to connect to US-93. Once you reach US-93, drive northbound until you reach the junction with Idaho State Highway 12 (ID-12) in Lolo, Montana. Turn left onto ID-12 and continue west. After about 45 miles, you will reach Kooskia, Idaho. From Kooskia, follow the signs to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area, which is approximately 10 miles further on the same road. Make sure to have a map or GPS handy for more precise navigation, as the area is remote and can be tricky to navigate.

    Public transportation options to reach Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness are limited. You can take a Greyhound bus or local transit to reach Missoula, Montana.
