Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are in downtown Butte, start at the corner of Park Street and Main Street. Head east on Park Street for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Washington Street. Continue straight onto Washington Street, which will take you through a residential area. After about 0.3 miles, turn left onto South Montana Street and continue walking for another 0.5 miles. You will then reach the entrance to the Big Butte Open Space Recreation Area, which will be on your right. The area is marked with a sign, and you will find trails leading into the open space.

    If you're biking, start from the Butte Silver Bow Public Archives located at 17 W Quartz St. Head southeast on Quartz Street towards S Montana St. Turn right onto S Montana St and continue for about 1 mile until you reach the intersection with W 5th St. Continue straight as S Montana St becomes W 5th St, then turn left onto S Main St. After approximately 0.4 miles, turn right onto Washington Street and follow it until you reach the entrance of the Big Butte Open Space Recreation Area on your left.     From the Butte Transit Center at 900 S Arizona St, take bus route #1 towards Butte High School.
